New Shop Location, First Day Opening Announcement!
How goes it Cats and Kittens out there in Internet land?! Freddie here with HUGE NEWS!!!!! As I'm sure many people have heard/seen/read, the HQ for Silver Shamrock Tattoo is MOVING! That's right, guys and gals, After 4 years at our current location, 31 Bellefonte Ave, it's time to move on. Where, some of you are asking? Not far, not far at all! We moving across the street to 10 Bellefonte Ave, the former home of "Trendz" clothing store and the old Eagles Club, directly in between Northwest Savings & Loans and Tropical Tanning Beauty Salon.
Ok, now, for a lot of you, this isn't exactly "news". We made mention of this on the first of the year, almost 2 months ago, right here on this very website. What IS news, however, is this :
Tuesday, February 24th will be our official first day in the new shop. That's right kiddos, THIS COMING TUESDAY! We've been slaving between appointments, before the shop opened, late nights after close, and on our days off for close to the last 2 months to get the place up to our standards and ready to go!
If any of you have been in the shop lately, you've probably noticed how A: hectic and B: kinda/sorta comparatively empty it's looked over the last couple of weeks. That's because we've been slowly but sure moving non-essentials across the street, as well as carpentry and electrical work, plumbing, building a new clean room, etc etc etc. It's been a TON of hard work, but it's absolutely going to pay off in the long run.
Like I said, we'll be at the new location starting Tuesday the 24th, but it's a "cold" opening of sorts (no pun intended.... seriously, fuck this weather...). Plans are coming together for a big Grand Opening something-or-other next month (and if anyone reading this knows us and knows what's coming up in March, it shouldn't take a mathematical genius to put 2 and 2 together...), and news about that will get posted as the details solidify.
One last thing before I end this long winded diatribe of a monologue : I really want to thank a few people for all of there hard work helping us out here :
- My apprentice Pat has pretty much lived over the the new shop all year. He's been busting his ass and getting things done when I've been stuck pushing pins and keeping the shop running. Seriously, we couldn't have made the move without him.
- Cory Shilling absolutely saved our ass by working some electrical magic and a ton of remodeling madness for us. The guy's a beast! Thanks for every, brother!
- Joe Martz, the Clean Room wouldn't look anywhere NEAR as nice as it does without you, so a big thanks to you, Mr. Joe!
- My wife and one and only Shop Kitten herself, Kate! She painted 99% of the shop and dealt with all of my psychosis and neurosis over the last few months over all of this madness. I love ya, Kitten!
Ok, cats and kittens, it's that Time Again : That time where YOU, the "Shamrock Army" as it were, gets to take the reigns and help your favorite crew of tattooed mooks : PLEASE pass along the word to your friends, your family, your kids, your friends' kids, your pets, etc etc etc. That's the simplest, easiest, and most effective way to help us get the word out about the move.
Please, stop into the new place starting Tuesday, you won't be disappointed! Between the new set up, new digs, new flash, new sketchbooks, and new chapter of the Silver Shamrock Tattoo story, I, for one, am excited! See ya in the funny papers!

New Year, New Shop!
Here we are, Cats and Kittens! Freddie here and I'm happy to announce that it's 2015! We're closed today, but we'll be back tomorrow regular hours (and we're both opening our new books, so call us up and get your appointments booked to get in ASAP). 2014 was our craziest and busiest year yet, so I wanted to take a minute to look back and reflect for just a quick second or 2 :
- Both Zach and myself knocked out a ton of new tattoos, both on regulars and new faces through the year. I know, I know, that's the name of the game and that's how the tattoo business works : I understand all of that, but it never ceases to amaze me just how lucky we are to get to keep doing what we do everyday.
- I took on an apprentice. I know, I said I didn't think I ever would, but Pat just seemed like the right fit. 6 months in, I think I've been proven right. He's been working on everything from drawing to learning the ins-and-outs of sterility and machine mechanics over the last 6 months. That said, he's just about ready to take the next and start actually putting pins to skin early in 2015! Words can't describe how much I'm excited to see the results!
- The shop was crazy busy all year. Starting in January, we got off to a crazy start, were steam-rolled through income-tax season, stayed busy through the summer, got hammered by incoming college kids in the fall, and ended up having one of the busiest Decembers I can remember ever having in the 11 years I've been doodling on people. Again, I just want to though a HUGE Thanks to everyone that came in over the last 365 days!
Ok, now.... for the last 2 months, I've been talking about a HUGE announcement. Welp, it's January 1st and it's about time for that to happen : In 2015, the shop will be closing its doors forever..... wait...what's that? No More Silver Shamrock?!?!? No, that's not what I'm saying, not in the least. Zach, Pat, and myself are going to be pushing pins in Lock Haven for YEARS to come! You're not getting rid of us that easy! What I'm actually saying is THIS :
In early 2015, the Silver Shamrock HQ will be moving it's location. I know, I know, it's a bit of a shock. There's been a tattoo shop in the storefront of 31 Bellefonte Ave since 2001, and it's been 13 great years! Why the move? Simple : The shop's gotten TOO busy and we need a BIGGER space. It's the absolute BEST reason to have to relocate, and we owe it entirely to YOU, our loyal Shamrock Army.
Now, the question you're probably asking is "Where?!?!?" : Fear not, good readers, it's not far : We're simply moving across the street, to 10 Bellefonte Ave : The old home of the Eagles Club and Trends Clothing store, located directly in between Northwest Savings & Loans and Tropical Tanning Beauty Salon. That's right, kiddos, we're still gonna be easy (Far EASIER, actually) to find!
As much as I'm sad to say goodbye to the home of the old shop, the prospects of the future are just too exciting to ignore! It's a bigger space with a better storefront and infinite potential! Yeah, it's gonna be a lot of work to get the place remodeled and ready for us, but we're starting that process NOW! Don't worry, though, the shop's still going to be open and jumping at our current location at 31 Bellefonte Ave until the move. No rest for the wicked, guys and gals!
The prospective time, as of right now, looks like this : Opening the Shop's new home sometime in mid/late February (fun fact : The re-branded Silver Shamrock's birthday is February 28th) and doing a HUGE Grand Opening party (something I never got the chance to do 4 years ago) in March.
Welp, that's about it. I told ya, it was going to be a HUGE announcement, and I think I delivered on that promise! 2014 was crazy..... 2015 is gonna be SO SO SOOOOO MUCH MORE! Thanks again for the privilege for letting me do what I love and make a living out of it. I've said it before, and I'll say it again : If it wasn't for all of you, I'd be bumming change on a street corner somewhere. See ya in the new year, kiddos!

VFW Benefit Aftermath
Welp, the Benefit the the VFW Benefit Center of North-Central PA is over and I, for one, am feeling pretty beat. Accomplished and happy, but beat none the less. Every time we do a "special" day at the shop, I feel like the stakes get raised, the prep-work gets harder, the number of eyes watching grows, and the pressure to succeed gets higher.
That all said, I think that this Benefit was an absolute and complete success! 150%, no question, without-a-doubt success.
Before I get down to the brass tacks of it all, I want to thank a handful of people for all that they did for the Benefit :
- First and foremost, A HUGE thanks to Zach and Pat, the other two-thirds of the Shamrock Crew, You guys are the goddamned best, and the amount of work you guys did in the month of prep leading up to this and crazy amount of work you guys did yesterday is undisputed and unrivaled in my eyes. There's no way that a day like this happens without you 2 mooks. I love you bastards like brothers and words can't accurately describe how proud I am of the two of ya.
- A huge thank to my wife, the shop Kitten herself, Katiesue Wadsworth for helping to keep me sane through the last month, for listening to me rant and rave about everything, and for helping to keep us organized through yesterday's madness. You're the best, babe! I LOVE YOUR FACE!
- A big thanks to Staci Willits for helping to run the front room madness, to Cheryl Wadsworth for the much-needed after-work pizzas, and to Eric Ditty for the super-much-absolutely-needed after-work beer.
- A HUGE thanks to all of the media outlets that did stories on the event and helped spread the word : Katie Hibbard and the Lock Haven Express, Valier Tysanner and WBRE, and Kristina Papa and WNEP. You guys are the BEST!
- And, finally, a GINORMOUS THANKS to Dave, Roy, Eric, Adam, and everyone else at the VFW Benefit Office. Thank you for letting me help, in whatever small way that I could. The amount of work that you guys do for local vets is immeasurable, and the amount of respect the entire Shamrock Crew has for what you guys do is close to double that, Keep up the good work, fellas!
Okay! Now, with all of that out of the way, let's get down to the breakdown and the final tally :
- Zach and I did 34 tattoos in 12.5 hours, raising $1,020 to go directly to the VFW Benefit Center. On top of that, the donation can in the front room brought in another $180 (one person who didn't even get a tattoo donated a $100 bill to the can!). That beings us to a grand total of $1200 dollars raised in 12.5 hours to go directly to the VFW Benefit Center of North-Central PA. Not too shabby if I do say so myself (and I do!). I'll be taking the money over and handing it directly to Dave at the VFW personally early this week.
Thank you to everyone who came out (especially all of the guys that came from 7am on to get in line and wait) to help support a great cause (and, of course, get a solid tattoo is the process). Apologies to the people that were turned away (only so many hours in a day, sadly).
Each one of these Benefits that we do take a crazy amount of work to pull off, but it's ALWAYS worth it in the end! They help me realize just how lucky I am to be a small-town kid that somehow got lucky enough to score a great job that, on occasion, gives me the opportunity to give back.

VFW Benefit : Saturday, August 2nd 2014
We have a HUGE announcement to make!
Ever since we did the awareness ribbon "special day" as a fundraiser for cystic fibrosis, a pile of folks (roughly 1 out of every 3 people I've spoken to since) have been asking if we were ever going to do another special and, if so, who/what/where/when/why/seriously NOW! Well, cats and kittens, it looks like it's just about that time!
As many of you know, the VFW lodge in Lock Haven burned down a little over a week ago. To some people, it was just another bar to hit up to have a few cold drinks and see a live band on occasion. To a host of other people in the area, it was so much more.
Are you a Military veteran? Are you currently enlisted and still proudly serving? Do you have a Father or Mother that was/is? Grandfather? A Child? Well, if you do than you know the struggles that come with the life of a Military Veteran.
The Lock Haven VFW and David Bower have been going out of their way for years to help the area's veterans in more ways than this guy can count. They've gone, time and time again, above and beyond to help others, and now it looks like they're the ones that could use a little help!
Here's the deal, Kids : We're going to be doing a one-day-only, first-come first-serve walk-in special on Saturday August 2nd : All Old School Military Tattoos, All Day! We're going to be digging through the Silver Shamrock archives and Tattoo Library (seriously, the amount of reference books and history books on tattooing, in particular American Tattooing, we have is staggering) to put together a couple sheets of Traditional American Military Flash for this one! Strong Lines, Heavy Shading, and simple Bold Color will the name of the game for this one guys and gals!
For this fundraiser, I think it's honestly going to be the most bang-for-your-buck deal that we've ever done! $50 Old school military tattoos! FIFTY BUCKS! That's INSANE! Even more so, We're going to donate $30 from every tattoo done directly to the local VFW, to help fund their rebuilding of everything they lost.
So there's the Skinny : Saturday, August 2nd, come on down to the shop to get an old school military tattoo to show your military pride (be it for yourself or for a loved one, it's all pride to us!) for a STEAL at $50, and do so knowing that 60% of that Ulysses S. Grant is going to help a great local organization get back on its feet, back up to speed, and back helping the good military veterans of this are ASAP!
Alright! The rest is up to you! Spread the word, share this status, and help make this the biggest turn-out yet! See you on the 2nd! - FreDDie Shamrock
